FNSKU Labeling for Supplements: A Complete Guide for Amazon Sellers
Amazon will not accept your inventory without the right label, and supplement sellers have less room for error than most because the product cannot be re-labelled in a marketplace warehouse. Getting the FNSKU right at the factory is what keeps your shipment from being refused, commingled or lost. Here is the whole sequence.

What FNSKU Actually Is
- What is an FNSKU?
The Fulfilment Network SKU is Amazon’s internal identifier for one specific product variant in one seller’s inventory. It is not the ASIN and not your own SKU — it is the code that ties a physical unit to your seller account. - Why can I not just use the ASIN?
Because an ASIN can be shared between sellers, and Amazon needs to know which seller’s stock a unit belongs to. Labelling with your FNSKU prevents your inventory being commingled with another seller’s and ensures you are credited for the sale. - Where do I get the FNSKU?
From Seller Central, once the product is created. It is tied to your account and your listing. Do not let a supplier reuse a code from a previous order for you or from another seller — it must be generated for this shipment. - Can I use a supplier’s barcode instead?
No. A standard trade barcode identifies the product, not your inventory. Amazon needs the FNSKU label on each sellable unit unless you are enrolled in a commingling programme, which supplement brands generally should not be.
Getting the Labels Right
- What has to be on the label?
The FNSKU in a scannable barcode, the product name as it matches the listing, and the condition. The label has to be readable, unobstructed, and placed on the unit in a way that survives handling. - Where should the label go?
On the sellable unit, not the case, and positioned so the barcode scans without removing packaging. On a bottle, the label must not cover the required regulatory text — plan the placement before the artwork is finalised. - What about a polybag?
If the unit needs a bag, the FNSKU goes on the outside of the bag. The bag itself must carry the suffocation warning if it meets the size threshold. This is a common cause of shipment refusal. - What are the most common labelling mistakes?
Wrong code for the variant, label over the regulatory text, unreadable or creased barcode, and labels applied to the case instead of the unit. Each of these can lead to a refused or mis-scanned shipment.
Managing It With Your Factory
- Should the factory apply the labels?
Yes — it is far cheaper and more reliable than doing it at a prep centre, provided the factory can print to your spec. Give them the label file, the placement instruction and a sample approval before the run. - How do I approve the labelling?
Ask for a photo or a physical sample of one finished, labelled unit before the full shipment ships. A five-minute check at that stage saves a shipment that arrives unusable. - What if the label is wrong after shipping?
Fixing it in-market is expensive and sometimes impossible for a sealed supplement. Prevention is the whole strategy: approve the label, approve the placement, approve a sample unit. - How does this interact with my own brand label?
They are two separate labels on the same unit: your brand and regulatory label as designed, plus the FNSKU overlay. Both have to coexist without covering each other. Design them together.
