Why Ashwagandha Is Easy to Buy Badly
Ashwagandha is one of the most requested botanicals in our order book, and also one of the easiest to buy badly. Three traps decide whether the finished product matches its label.
Plant Part
Root, root-and-leaf and full-spectrum materials all exist legitimately — but they are not interchangeable, and the label has to describe the one you actually used.
Standardisation
Ratio and withanolide content are not the same measurement. A 20:1 extract with low withanolides can carry less active than a 10:1 with high ones. We quote on the analytical figure you will see on the COA, not on a ratio that sounds impressive.
Format vs Load
A 600 mg extract load is comfortable in a tablet or stick pack and tight in a 4 g gummy, where pectin, sweetener and flavour all compete for space. We flag dose-format conflicts at quotation, not at sampling.
Formats We Run
Gummies & Chewables
Pectin or gelatin base, 4 g unit weight as standard, 200–600 mg extract per piece.
Hard Capsules
HPMC or gelatin shell, 250–600 mg fill, single or split dose across two capsules.
Tablets
Compressed and film-coated, up to 1,000 mg per tablet depending on particle size.
Powder & Stick Packs
Flavoured blends in scoop or single-serve formats, 3–30 g per serving.
Softgels
Oil or suspension fill where a lipophilic carrier helps dispersion.
What We Check Before Release
Identity & Withanolides
Extract identity confirmed and withanolide content measured against your agreed specification, by HPLC.
Uniformity
Mass and fill weight sampled through the whole run, not just the first and last unit.
Contaminants
Microbiology, heavy metals and pesticide residues on the finished product — pesticide limits set to the strictest market in the order.
Stability & Solvents
Stability under your pack and shelf life, including gummy texture over time, plus residual solvent checks where the extract was solvent-processed.
Sourcing and Specification Notes
Market Intake Limits
Where a market limits a botanical or sets a maximum daily intake, we flag it before artwork is finalised rather than after.
Organic Material
Organic-certified ashwagandha is available on request — it adds lead time and is quoted separately, so decide early.
Specification First
Material grade, withanolide figure and format are settled in the specification before sampling, so the COA you receive is the COA you expected.
One Thing Buyers Get Wrong
Buying on extract ratio instead of analytical content. A 30:1 extract is a processing statement, not a potency statement — always quote the withanolide figure you will verify on the COA. The second version of the mistake is assuming the label can carry the same claims in every market: ashwagandha is a permitted botanical in most Western markets, but its approved claim set differs materially between them. We build artwork to one ruleset, and we need to know which one before print.
Popular Formulas We Run
The extract you pick sets the dose — here are the combinations buyers most often build around it.
Stress + Sleep
Standardised ashwagandha extract with magnesium and L-theanine for a calm, evening-positioned formula.
Men's Vitality
Ashwagandha with zinc and maca for a daily men's line — a repeatable best-seller.
Adaptogen Blend
Ashwagandha with shilajit and rhodiola for a multi-pathway stress matrix.
MOQ, Sampling & Lead Times
The commercial basics up front — minimums, sampling and production speed, the same commitment on every ingredient line.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimum order quantity for ashwagandha gummies?
MOQ is confirmed per format and specification at quotation stage, because extract load, unit weight and packaging all move the number. Send us the format and target load and we will give you an exact figure with the quote.
Can you standardise to a specific withanolide percentage?
Yes. We buy against a specification, so tell us the withanolide figure you need by HPLC and we will source to it. Very high figures narrow the supplier pool and extend lead time.
Do you supply root-only material, or root-and-leaf?
Both. Root-only is the more common choice for Western markets because the label statement is simpler; root-and-leaf carries a broader phytochemical profile. We will show you the material options and their price difference.
Which formats work best for a 600 mg extract load?
Capsules, tablets and stick packs run a 600 mg load comfortably. In a 4 g gummy the same load is achievable but requires us to rework the base and flavour system, which affects texture. We will sample it before you commit.
What documentation comes with each batch?
A Certificate of Analysis covering identity, withanolide content, microbiology, heavy metals and pesticides, plus an allergen statement, specification sheet and the approved artwork record.
How long does bulk production take?
Bulk production runs 25–40 calendar days after we receive the PO and you approve the artwork. Samples are ready in 7–10 working days, and we reply to enquiries within 1–2 business days.
DOSAGE FORMS
Which format should your Ashwagandha product take?
The same Ashwagandha blend can be delivered in several forms, and each one changes the fill weight, the taste profile and the tooling. We produce capsule, tablet and powder in-house, so the choice is driven by your market rather than by what a third party can supply.
- Forms we run for this ingredient: capsules, tablets and powders
- Pilot batch from 1–5 kg before any bulk commitment
- Fill weight, unit count and pack format set to your brief
