OUR OPERATIONS
Sustainability in Manufacturing
What we are actually doing about energy, water, waste and packaging — stated in operational terms rather than as an aspiration, and reviewed as part of how the factories are run.
- Energy, water and waste reviewed as operating metrics, not slogans
- Packaging selected to reduce material without compromising protection
- Supplier and raw material sourcing reviewed against a written specification
Where Our Impact Sits
Manufacturing a supplement is not a heavy industrial process. Our own operations consume electricity for drying, coating and packing, water for cleaning, and packaging material for the finished product. By a wide margin, the largest share of our environmental footprint — and yours — sits upstream in ingredient cultivation, extraction and freight.
That shapes where we focus: packaging and yield, because both are within our control, and ingredient choices, because that is where the leverage is.
Energy
- Electricity consumption is metered at line level and reviewed monthly, so that a change in consumption can be traced to a change in process.
- Heating and drying processes are the main consumers; where a line runs below capacity, changeovers are scheduled in batches to avoid unnecessary warm-up and purge cycles.
- Equipment replacement decisions take running energy cost into account, not just purchase price.
Water
- Cleaning is the dominant water use. Wash-down is staged by equipment type rather than by a single fixed cycle, so that low-residue equipment is not cleaned to the standard of a high-residue one.
- Detergent dosing is controlled and recorded, reducing both chemical use and the rinse water needed to clear it.
- Effluent is discharged within permit limits and monitored; it is not treated as an unavoidable by-product.
Waste
- Production waste is segregated at source: recyclable board and film, general waste and hazardous waste each follow a separate route.
- Hazardous waste is transferred only to licensed handlers, with transfer records retained.
- Batch rejects are investigated as a waste-and-cost problem — the root cause is usually a formulation or process issue, and fixing it removes the waste permanently.
- Solvent and chemical containers are returned or disposed of under the manufacturer’s take-back arrangement where one exists.
Packaging
This is the part of our footprint our customers influence most directly, and where a choice made at specification stage has the largest effect.
- Right-sizing. We will tell you when your bottle or carton is larger than the product requires. Oversized packaging is the most common and most easily avoided form of waste in this category.
- Material reduction. Where a lighter gauge or a smaller carton meets the product’s protection needs, we specify it. Barrier requirements come first — a package that fails is more wasteful than a heavier one.
- Recyclability. Mono-material and widely recyclable options are preferred where they do not compromise the product — for example, fewer laminated multi-material structures where a single-material alternative works.
- Refill and larger-format options. Where your market supports it, we can develop a larger pack or a refill format, which reduces packaging per dose.
- No unnecessary overwrapping. We do not add shrink wrap, filler or display material unless your channel requires it.
Supply Chain
Our leverage over our ingredient suppliers is limited but real, and we use it:
- Ingredient suppliers are expected to meet the same environmental and labour expectations set out in our Code of Conduct.
- Where a customer wants a defined-origin or certified-sustainable ingredient, we will say plainly what documentation is available and what is not.
- We do not make carbon-neutral or net-zero claims on behalf of our customers’ products, because we cannot substantiate them for an upstream supply chain we do not control.
Social Responsibility
Environmental performance is only half of a sustainability position. Our labour and business-integrity commitments — no forced labour, no child labour, legal wages and hours, no bribery, accurate customs documentation — are set out in full in our Code of Conduct.
What We Are Not Claiming
We are not carbon neutral, we do not claim a net-zero target, and we have not commissioned a full life-cycle assessment. If your compliance process requires quantified environmental data, tell us what you need and we will tell you what we can evidence.
