Oral Films — OEM & Private Label — Sleep & Relaxation

Oral films are a thin, dissolvable strip that delivers actives through the oral mucosa without water or swallowing — they dissolve in seconds, act fast and offer a genuinely differentiated shelf presence. Hubogen produces oral film strips in-house for nutraceutical and lifestyle applications. As an oral film manufacturer, Hubogen offers custom oral thin film OEM with fast-dissolve and buccal delivery.

Why brands choose oral films

  • No water needed — the strip dissolves on the tongue in seconds.
  • Fast delivery — actives are absorbed through the buccal mucosa.
  • Ultra-portable — a pocket-sized dispenser carries a full month.
  • Novel and premium — strong brand differentiation.
  • Great for niche actives — melatonin, B12, caffeine and mint formulas.

Format at a glance

  • Size — 20–30 mm square typical.
  • Base — pullulan, HPMC or starch polymer.
  • Flavours — mint, berry, citrus and custom.
  • Pack — single-serve foil pouch in dispenser or cartridge.
  • Options — multi-flavour variety packs.

Specification range

Strips are typically 20–30 mm square with a film weight around 30–100 mg, containing a few milligrams to tens of milligrams of active. Base polymers are pullulan, HPMC or starch, with flavours such as mint, berry and citrus. Strips are packed in single-serve foil pouches inside a dispenser box or cartridge.

Typical applications

Melatonin sleep strips, vitamin B12 and B-complex strips, caffeine and energy strips, vitamin D strips, mint-fresh breath strips, and herbal or botanical extract strips.

What decides whether a project runs smoothly

  • Film weight and area define the dose — consistency of the coating is the whole project.
  • Solubility of the active — actives that don’t disperse evenly produce inconsistent strips.
  • Plasticiser and flexibility — the difference between a clean peel and a shattered or stuck strip.
  • Moisture uptake — films are hygroscopic and go sticky without an adequate barrier.
  • Taste — the film dissolves in the mouth, so masking is not optional.

Sourcing and specification notes

  • Film weight per strip is very low, so this format suits potent actives dosed in milligrams, not grams.
  • Film thickness and disintegration time are set by the polymer system, at specification stage.
  • Taste is the dominant formulation problem — masking must be built into the film.
  • Individually sealed strips give excellent barrier protection and a precise single serving.
  • Heat and humidity in transit affect film integrity, so the pack barrier matters.

Quality and shelf life

Oral films are released against film weight, disintegration time and active uniformity — the active is distributed through the film, so coating consistency is everything. Films are hygroscopic and go sticky without a proper barrier, so packaging is part of the formulation. Shelf life is confirmed per formulation, stated on the spec sheet.
